The various fields in economics are:
Agricultural economics: Study problems relating to agricultural resources, irrigation facilities, land reforms and rural indebtedness. It covers marketing of farm products, forecasting, production and consumption of agricultural products and suggesting improvements in agricultural financing. They maintain agricultural production statistics and forecast production and consumption of various agricultural products. Generally agricultural Economists are employed by State Bureaux of Statistics and Economics Agricultural Universities and Agricultural Research Organisations.
Financial Economics: Deals with fiscal and monetary policies and other financial matters. They are also concerned with the smooth functioning of banks and other financial institutions including Financial Corporations. It studies the impact of taxes on the growth of the country, and examines the value of currency, exchange trends and the functioning of banking among other things. They are mostly engaged by Banks, Cooperative Banks, Financial Institutions and investment Corporation.
Labour Economics: Concerned with labour problems of a country. It is the study and pattern of labour force employment and unemployment, productivity, wages, labour legislation, industrial disputed, etc. They also conduct manpower studies and undertake manpower planning. Labour Economists are mainly employed by Ministry of Labour, National Employment Service, Labour Research Institutes and also Labour Tribunals etc. They generally employed by big Industrial Houses.
Industrial Economics: Study of market trends for production, selling methods and ways to boost sales and how to make maximum use of assets and develop desirable markets.
International Economics/ Study of economics of International Business: They collect, maintain and analyse statistical data and suggest ways and means to keep the country’s balance of payment favourable. They do study of trade and foreign exchange policies. They also keep in touch with latest trends in the world market and advise the export of such commodities which have potential international market.
Business Economics: Business economics deals with the analysis of the behaviour of firms in markets and industries and with determination of costs and prices.
Development Economics: Development economics is basically based on the growth theory applied to the economic problems of developing countries.
Rural Economics and Development: The subject in variant forms is offered by a number of universities as one of the combinations at the Bachelor degree level.
Econometrics: Econometrics combines economic theory expressed in mathematical form with statistical methods.
