Preliminary selection: Mere fulfilling of minimum prescribed qualifications. etc. will not entitles candidates to be called for the interview. Commission may make a preliminary short listing of candidates w. r. t. number of posts on the basis of their educational qualifications, academic records, percentage of marks, etc. and the candidates thus selected will be required to undergo an interview (along with proficiency test/skill test wherever necessary). Screening test: the Commission may, at its discretion also decide to hold a screening test for any of the categories where if is felt necessary before interview/ proficiency test. Syllabus
Paper – I (OBJECTIVE TYPE)
(i) General Intelligence: the Syllabus for General Intelligence would include questions of both verbal types. The test may include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate’s abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.
(ii) General Awareness: Questions in General Awareness component will be aimed at testing the candidate’s General Awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge or current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, Sports, Literature, Scientific Research, Basics/ fundamentals of computer, etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.
(iii) English Language & Comprehension: Questions in this component will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on error recognition, fill in the blanks (using verbs, preposition, articles etc), Vocabulary, Spellings, Grammar, Sentence Structure, Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence Completion, Phrases and Idiomatic use of Words, etc. There will be a question on passages and comprehension of passages also. The standard of the questions will be only of 10+2 level.
Responsibilities and main job requirements for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr. III and Compiler
I) Statistical Investigator Grade – II: (a) Checking and scrutiny of data contained in primary Genus abstracts and town and village directory statements: verification and scrutiny of data containing camera ready copies of formats/ schedules/ census publications/bulletins/ reports, etc. (b) Scrutiny of the data received from the field agencies implementing various schemes and projects. (c) Imparting training and monitoring of the work of filed enumerators/ part time enumerators. (d) Assist officers in imparting training to enumerators and supervisors during census operations. (e) Checking of village registers, charge registers and entries made in abridged house lists during census operations. (f) Assist their immediate officers in the finalization of Statistical tables/ statements/ appendices/ annexes, etc. (g) Supervision of the work of senior compilers and compilers working under them. (h) Maintenance of Statistical work record. (i) Computer entry of Statistical data. (j) Assistant in making arrangements for meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences. (k) Undertake socio-Economics surveys in selected villages and towns. (l) Attend to other misc. duties assigned to them by their seniors. II) Compiler: (a) Collection, compilation, scrutiny and computation of statistical data relating to Census and various other schemes, surveys and projects. (b) Data entry for preparation of Statistical tables. (c) Copying, comparison and editing of statistical tables, typing work. (d) Diary, dispatch, procuring of stationery items and their distribution. (e) Care taking job relating to building, maintenance of electric and electronic equipments. Statistical Investigators Grade IV examination

Eligibility: Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics as one of the main subjects, or Bachelor’s Degree with Mathematics/ Economics/ Commerce (with Statistics as a paper studied in one year/ two years/ all the three years as the case may be) as one of the main subjects.
Scheme of examination
The examination will be conducted in two stages:
A. Written Examination – 400 marks
B. Interview/ Personality Test – 100 marks

B. Interview
The interview/ personality test its structured in such a manner that the candidates’ interests, knowledge, various traits, aptitude, suitability, etc. are prodded, among other things, through academic qualifications, extra-curricular activities, general awareness/ knowledge, depth of knowledge of the subject studied (10+2 onwards), communicative skill and personality etc.

Mode of selection: Candidates fulfilling the prescribed qualifications will be required to undergo a Written Examination. The commission hold full discretion to fix minimum qualifying marks component wise in Paper – I and II for different categories, i.e.,
Note – I: Candidates who are appointed on the basis of this selection shall be on probation for a period of two years and during the period of probation, the candidates would require to undergo such training or pass such examinations as prescribed by the Controlling Authority for satisfactory completion of probation. On completion of the period of probation, the candidates shall, if considered fit for permanent appointment, be confirmed i their appointment by the Controlling Authority.
Note –I: Candidates who are finally selected to be appointed on the basis of this Examination, as Statistical Investigator Grade IV of SSS, shall be required to undertake field work to collect socio-economic and other data though large scale sample surveys. Such data collection by the Statistical Investigator could require them to apply basic knowledge of Statistics for making analysis, interpretations, drawing the relevant conclusions of the data collections, etc.
