The University will hold admission test for determining the eligibility for recruitment of Lecturers in Universities and colleges in Tamil Nadu. Last date for receipt of application forms: 27.01.2006 Entrance Test: Sunday the 12th March 2006.

Condition of eligibility: Only those candidates who have completed/ are pursuing a UGC specified degree. Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without grace or rounding off) in Master’s Degree (or) equivalent examinations are eligible for this test. The scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribes (ST)/ physically Handicapped (PH)/ Blind (BL) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without grace or rounding off) in Master’s degree examination are eligible for this Examination. The Ph. D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% to appear in SLET Examination. Candidates have to appear for SLET in the Subject or their Post Graduation only. Exemption: For M. Phil. / Ph. D. Candidates: NET/ SLET Shall remain the compulsory requirement for appointment as Lecturer even for candidates having Ph. D. degree. However the candidates who have passed their M. Phil. degree by 31st December 1993 or have submitted their Ph. D. thesis to a University on or before 31st December 2002 are exempted from appearing in the NET/ SLET Examination. In case such candidates failing to obtain Ph D. degree, they shall have to pass the NET/SLET examination. The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in the SLET Examination.

Scheme of examination: The test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will be held on one day in two separate sessions as under.

Paper –I will be of general nature intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidates. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension and divergent thinking. Paper – II will consist of short questions based on the subject selected by the candidates. These two papers will each consist of a Test booklet containing 50 objective type questions. Paper – III will consist of only descriptive question from the syllabus of the subject selected by the candidates. A candidate who does not appear in Paper I will not be permitted to appear in paper II and Paper III. Paper III will be evaluated only for those candidates who are able to secure the minimum qualifying marks in paper I and Paper II as decided by the appropriate authority.

Syllabus of Test: Question paper for Paper I is common for all the subject in which SLET is conducted and it will be bi Lingual (English and Tamil). Eligibility: Any Indian national who has obtained Master’s Degree with at least 55% of marks (without grace marks (or) rounding of 54/5 and above to 55%) or an equivalent grade from an Indian University or Foreign University (equivalent to the degree of Indian University) is eligible for the test. In case of SC/ST candidates the minimum requirement in Master’s degree is 50%. Candidates have to appear in the subject in which they have taken the post-graduate degree. In case the subject of a candidate is not included in SLET, the candidate may appear the NET in the subject related to the one he/she has qualified at the Post Graduate level.  Candidates who have qualified the test are eligible to apply for the post of lecturer all over India. The Certificate of eligibility is valid for all time. Exemption from appearing in the Test: Candidate who have obtained Ph D. or submitted Ph. D. thesis or obtained M. Phil Degree by December 31, 1993. (The candidates should have at least 55% Marks in their Post Graduation to be eligible for lectureship.); Candidates who have passed the JRF test conducted by UGC prior to the test introduced for lectureship. Scheme of the test:  The test will consist of there papers. All the three papers will be held in one day. Syllabus and Design of the Papers: Paper – I is compulsory and common for candidates of all disciplines. It will be of general nature intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of a candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension and divergent thinking; Paper – II and paper – III: Candidates may choose paper-II and III in their subject of Post-graduation. Both these papers will correspond to the post graduate level knowledge in that subject. Paper – I and II will be held in the first session. They will be of one hour and fifteen minutes duration each. Each of these papers will carry maximum of 100 marks and consist of 50 multiple choice objective type questions (items). There will be no negative marketing for wrong answers in paper-I and II. Paper – III will be held in the second session. It will be of two hours and thirty minutes duration and will carry maximum of 200 marks. This paper will consist of Two Parts- Part A will contain 12 short answer type questions of 10 marks and 50 words each. All the 12 questions of part-A will be compulsory. Part – B will contain 8 descriptive-type questions, except Mathematics of which the candidates will be required to answer any five questions of 16 marks and 250 word each. All the questions will be from the syllabus of the subject selected by the candidates. Paper – III will be evaluated of only those candidates who are able to secure a minimum of such aggregate marks in Paper – I and Paper – II as per direction of the University Grants Commissions.
