Physics teaches skills essential in a variety of professions. These skills include: mathematical modelling, problem solving, designing experiments, interpretation of experimental data, reflecting on answers before trusting them, research experience and laboratory technique. It is a subject that tries to understand and analyse the rules governing everything in the physical world. No matter how many applied programmes come in, the relevance of a basic science programme that is the best way to building concepts, can never be undermined. Even though the concurrent/ credit courses (mathematics, operational research, chemistry, digital electronics & economics) do not have an element of the biological sciences, a post graduation in these subjects is a good option. Armed with basic degree like B. Sc. (Hons) and M. Sc. in Physics, you will not be able to get into academics unless you clear the CSIR-National Eligibility Test (NET) and do a PhD in the subject in order to become a lecturer or a BEd course if you want to teach at the school level. They can also do Masters in IT or Environmental Science from premier institutions like IIT, TIFR and IISc. They can also do M. Tech in a number of disciplines.

Anthropology
Anthropology is concerned with the study of primitive and civilized man, his origin, physical characteristics, systems, languages, traditions, material possessions, and social and religious beliefs and practices. The study of anthropology incorporates several aspects of study - the physical aspects of human evolution, socio-cultural aspects, archaeological aspects, linguistics, and, of course, the applications of this knowledge. The methods of study are investigative using procedures of scientific study. Anthropologists work as team members with organisations dealing with social, cultural, medical and health research, developmental organisations and welfare bodies.
Anthropologists work with welfare organisations on projects related to rehabilitation, health, upliftment, and in studies on tribal areas. They work with medical research organisations, working on nutrition and preventive medicine projects. Human recourse departments haves anthropologists on their panel for developing cross cultural communication skills. In museums anthropologists classify objects of cultural, physical, technological and aesthetic life of man and arrange them for proper display. Universities and museums, archaeological surveys and research as well as organisations conducting biological surveys employ anthropologist. Geology
With the heightened interest in Earth Sciences, Geology has emerged as a “lucrative” option for those interested in what goes on beneath. There are new technologies like the geographical information systems and the remote sensing which are being used in a number of allied fields. Traditional areas in mining, metals, coal exploration offer a course but newer technologies – GIS, Geographical positioning systems and remote sensing – are further opening up the scope of the subject. Microbiology
Microbiology is the study of micro - organisms such as bacteria, viruses and algae. Our existence, health, food, agriculture and industrial development are dependent on them. If microbes were to become extinct, disaster would be inevitable and would be beyond imagination. The course studies the diversity of microbial types, how micro – organisms can be used and manipulated to aid mankind and counter the detrimental effects of micro – organisms. New industries devoted to genetic engineering offer microbiologists excellent career opportunities. Microbiologists are also in demand in clinical microbiology.
Microbiology graduates are well equipped for a variety of carers. They usually secure jobs in their respective fields of interest, mostly in the world of science. The job of the microbiologists is to study the growth, development and behaviour of micro – organisms and consequently control and utilise them for the benefit of living beings. Primary applications of microbiology are in medicine, food technology and pharmacology. Some of the sub – categories of microbiologists are as follows: Medical microbiologists, Agricultural microbiologists, Industrial microbiologists, Marine microbiologist, General microbiologists. Biologists can further specialise in the study of micro – organisms in the fields of their interest such as bacteriology, study of bacteria, mycology, study of fungi and virology, study of viruses.
Microbiologists find jobs in many places like research and development laboratories of Government and private hospitals, research organisations, pharmaceutical, food, beverage and chemical industries. Being closely related to biotechnology there are many similarities between them, making microbiology also a very promising career option. A steep rise in employment avenues for microbiologists is envisaged as a result o growing numbers of the above mentioned organisations.

Nursing
Often overlooked as a viable profession by most students, nursing has, in fact, a lot to offer. Does anyone remember the nurses who assist the doctor, who are responsible for post operative care, one of the most crucial and important parts of medical care? Nursing is not at par with other professions, at least in
There is a great demand for trained nurses, especially in the rural areas. In fact, there are very few doctors or nurses at the sub centre level. In these places, Auxiliary Nurses are especially required. The global norm, followed by most advanced countries, is to keep (an ideal) doctor nurse ratio at 1:3. In

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy
With an increase in workplace stress and the subsequent rise in occupation-related physical hazards like lower back problems or highly deteriorating neurological and psychological conditions, there is a great demand for occupational therapists. Occupational therapists also work with those who have physically, mentally, developmentally or emotionally disabling conditions. They help patients identify imbalances that they may have in their lives and design activities to deal with them. This type of therapy is patient specific, involving recreational, creative or educational activities. The patient’s interests, his background and his previous experiences also form an integral part of the treatment. A wide variety of people can benefit from occupational therapy, including those with work – related injuries like limitations following a stroke or heart attack, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, or other chronic conditions, learning problems, or developmental disabilities, mental health or behavioural problems including Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, and posttraumatic stress. . Efforts are made to strengthen their weak muscles in order to coordinate movement to increase work tolerance. Thus, they gain confidence in their ability to lead a normal life. Occupational therapists work to restore functionality of the patient in the workplace besides restoring functional efficiency in day to day work. They are also associated with designing of new equipments for treatment. The term occupational performance area refers to all activities of daily living, such as grooming, dressing, food preparation and eating, communication, and mobility, work activities, including home management, care of others and educational activities. The term occupational performance component refers to the functional abilities required to perform the tasks of daily living. These abilities include sensory motor, cognitive, and psychological components.
