BMMC - Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass Communication

Media or more accurately, mass media is primarily a communication designed to reach the masses. In fact, the broad spectrum of media covers advertising; broadcasting including radio and television; journalism; photography, publishing, theatres, dances and folk-arts. You could be in the broadcast media as announcers, newsreaders, presenters/ anchors, correspondents, video jockeys, radio jockeys, technicians, cinematographers, sound engineers, produces, researchers, scriptwriters and actors. There is room for qualified professionals as well as creative artists. Combinations of creative and technically trained professionals are required for the TV as well the radio industry. Challenging opportunities have mushroomed for talented performers as well.

Media aspirants should possess the ability to work hard and the strength of purpose to help them withstand pressures of deadlines or differences of opinion. The ability to interact with people is a critical requirement. A keen sense of observation, intuition to perceive what is not directly revealed and sound general awareness is essential. Be prepared to build up your career from an entry-level position. The jobs in this discipline are challenging and offer variety, not to speak of the glamour associated with them. People who really want a career in media will make it happen. Pre – Admission forms are not accepted.

·   Indraprastha College for Women. The three year course was started in 1999 and is the most popular course of the college.  The college has ten camera set up and 15 editing suits .The students work with the latest software. The audio visual studio has a full size production facility and production control room. It also contains both linear and non linear editing suits. The college has outdoor shooting system with cameras, wireless transmitters and mikes, lighting kit and monitors for on location shooting. Test: There are two written test and one interview for admission to the programme. The first one has multiple choice questions on general awareness and the second one test your skills in English. Candidates who pass the first exam are then called for an aptitude test in which they may be asked to write an essay, an advertisement and so on. Students must read magazines and newspapers regularly and also listen to the radio to prepare for the test.

Eligibility: Girl Students with 55% (50% for SC/ ST) in aggregate in +2 examinations. Last date: 15.6.09. Objective type entrance test: 20.6.09, Creative Ability test: 27.6.09. Interview: 2 – 3 July Seats: 36. Open counselling for parents & aspirants on 2.6.09 at 10 am in the college auditorium.

It’s a right course for people wanting to get into the electronic media specially TV journalism. Content: It deals with all aspects of journalism - English, Hindi, print, radio, electronic and even cyber. There is a lot of practical work including dissertations, photo features, radio recording, editing (linear/ non – linear), film making and an outdoor shoot. Students are taught to handle cameras and other equipment. On the theory side, they are introduced to the working of the Indian constitution, ethics of communication, advertising, print journalism, the history of journalism, communication psychology and press laws. There is a six seeks compulsory internship after the second year, in a medium of your choice. Unlike the DU journalism courses, here internships are provided by the college. There is a definite bias towards journalism in the course, and most people who wish enter advertising or Public Relations have been disappointed.
