The academic calendar is based on six semesters, each six months in duration, followed by University exams. The first two semesters lay the basic foundations. The development of management theory as well as marketing are traced back almost a century as part of the syllabus.

The second year builds on the first and introduces the students to topics like Market Research, Cost Accounting, Business law, Financial Management and Human Resource Management. The last two semesters chiefly consist of electives depending on one’s specialisation. Options for specialisation include Finance, Marketing and Human Resource Management. In all students are required to do 24 compulsory papers and 6 electives. Students can opt for optional non-credit courses if they so wish.

The summer training programme: To prepare professionals of high calibre and to make sure that rigorous theory is backed with practical exposure, an 8 to 10 week placement for students in business establishments during the summer vacations has been integrated into the academic curriculum of the college. Students usually work on projects under the supervision of middle and senior level managers after which they submit a report on their achievements, work done and findings to the college and the organisation. A performance appraisal by the immediate superior in the company is also obtained, to add to the students’ file, which is used to assist companies during the final placements.

In the BBS Programme CBS enrols a 120 every year after a rigorous selection process, that includes a written exam modelled on the patterns now in vogue with sections like numerical and reasoning ability, general knowledge, business aptitude and language skills. He/She may also go in for MBA. A BBS provides dual advantage. As it is job-oriented, willing individuals can take up jobs after the completion of BBS. Besides, it is a step towards higher management education. A person who goes in for MBA after a BBS is better equipped than those with a B. Com. or even a B.Sc. Most students prefer to work after graduation. But lack of jobs and demand for trained professionals does not give them ample opportunities. In such a scenario a student with a professional degree will have a head start in his/her career. Today, companies are laying stress on training and development. In such a scenario, such professionals are likely to be an asset to in their respective organisation.
