Agricultural Research Service/ National Eligibility Test Examination
1. Agricultural Scientists’ Recruitment Board (ASRB) will hold a Competitive ARS/ NET Examination for filling up the vacancies of Scientists in Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in the ICAR Institutes, combined with National Eligibility Test (NET) for determining eligibility for recruitment of Lecturers and Assistant Professors by the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). The selected candidates for Agricultural Research Service will be required to serve the Institutes to which they are posted until they find appointment for higher positions through selection at other Institutes.
2. (i) Candidates declared successful in the examination for ARS will be recommended for appointment as Scientists in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
(ii) Candidates clearing the National Eligibility Test will be recommended to various State Agricultural Universities who will consider them for appointment as Lecturers or Assistant Professors after assessing their suitability through interview or such other tests as may be devised by the SAU concerned. Eligibility certificates will be issued to those candidates by the A.S.R.B. to enable them to apply against vacancies to be notified or advertised by the State Agricultural Universities.
3. The candidates for ARS to be called for Viva –Voce will be in the ratio of 1:5. The selection of candidates for Viva-Voce will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the written examination.

Age Limit:
(a) Agricultural Research Service: A candidates seeking admission to the Agricultural Research Service must have attained the age of 21 years but not have attained the age of 30 years. In service candidates of ICAE less than 45 years in age will also eligible to appear subject to possession of prescribed qualifications. In service candidates of the State Agricultural Universities less than 35 years in age will be eligible to appear for ARS subject to possession of prescribed qualifications. The upper age limit prescribed above will also be relaxable in case of S.C. / S.T. / Other Backward Classes/ Physically Handicapped/ candidates/ bonafide displaced persons/ repatriates of Indian origin/ defence Services Personnel/ Border Security Force Personnel etc. as per the existing instructions of the Government in
(b) For National Eligibility Test: A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years. There will be no upper age limit for the National Eligible Test.
Educational Qualifications:
For admission to Agricultural Research Service/ National Eligibility Test:
A candidate must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in the concerned subject with Specialization. Major/Board Disciplines – Economics & Agricultural Business Management, Sub Disciplines - Agricultural Economics, Prescribed Qualifications – Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics/ Economics/ Agricultural Marketing & Cooperation/ Agricultural Business Management or Masters’ degree in Agriculture/ Dairy Science/ Fishery/Veterinary with specialization in any of the above subjects.
Plan of Examination:
The competitive examination shall comprise the following subjects:

Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board will hold Viva-Voce only for those eligible candidates who have applied for the Agricultural Research Service in the application form and fulfil other requirements. This will be of 100 marks thus making a total of 500 marks for ARS.
GENERAL
Marks will not be allotted for more superficial knowledge. Credit will be given for orderly, effective and exact expression combined with due economy of words in all subjects of the examination. The standard of part ‘A’ of General paper will be such as may be expected of a graduate of an
Paper – I General: General consists of two parts ‘A’ and Part ‘B’. Part ‘A’ of the question paper shall contain 60 objective types of questions (one mark each) with multiple choice (four choices) in general agriculture representing the depth and domain of agriculture science knowledge imparted at U.G. level. This part shall be common to all the disciplines. The second part “B” shall consist of 140 objective type with multiple choice (four choices) questions covering professional knowledge in the discipline with equal weightage to all units of the syllabus. The total duration of Paper – I shall be of 2 ½ hours. Negative marking will be made for wrong answers in Paper – I (Objective type) and 25% marks will be deducted for wrong answers.
Paper – II Professional: Professional shall consist of one or more section containing minimum 25 or more subjective or descriptive type of questions representing professional knowledge of the subject which required short answers of 5-6 lines or reasoning or analytical skills, each carrying 10 marks.
(a) The question paper having only one section there shall be 25 questions and candidates have to answer any 20 questions.
(b) The question paper having two sections “A” and “B” there shall be 30 questions 15 questions from each section with equal weightage and candidates shall have to answer 20 questions of which at least 10 questions shall be from one section.
(c) The question paper having three sections “A”, “B” and “C” there shall be 15 questions from each section with equal weightage and the candidates shall have to answer 20 questions. Out of three sections of which at least 10 questions shall be from one section.
(d) The question paper having four sections “A”, “B”, “C” and “D” there shall be 15 questions from each section with equal weightage and candidate shall have to answer 20 questions of which at least 10 questions shall be from one section.
VIVA-VOCE: The candidates will be interviewed by a Board of competent and unbiased experts in the respective disciplines, who will have before them a record of his/her career. The object of the viva-voce is to assess his/her suitability for the Service for which he/she has competed. The viva voce is intended to supplement the written examination for testing the general and specialized knowledge and abilities of the candidate. The candidate will be expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in his/her own state or country, as well as in modern current of thought and in new discoveries, which should rouse the curiosity of well-educated youth. The technique of the viva-vice is not that of strict cross-examination, but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation intended to reveal the candidate’s mental qualities and his/her grasp of problems. The Board will pay special attention to assessing the intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, balance of judgment and alertness of mind, the ability for social cohesion integrity of character, initiative and capacity for leadership and scientific research.
